Current information regarding Covid-19 in Portugal as of 29th January 2021

Portugal is currently experiencing great difficulties in controlling the increase of Covid-19 cases. We are currently on lockdown yesterday announced until 14th February, but we predict it will be extended until end of February. The usual social distancing rules apply, use of the mask in public spaces and during this time we are required to stay home.

How will this affect my stay?
Here at Omassim guesthouse, the lockdown does not have a huge impact on our day-to-day life. Our guests are mostly remote workers who are staying with us long term. Most meet for breakfast and lunch and we are enjoying a family-like community in this beautiful space. We are still able to go for walks and soak in the beauty of the coastline. With such stunning views, there is nothing more healing than watching the waves and connecting with nature. We practice yoga six days a week and use the gym for personal workouts. Unfortunately, during lockdown, surfing is not permitted, and lessons will not be taking place.

Lockdown and Social Distancing in Portugal

Social distancing rules apply to the entire country, it is mandatory to wear a face / nose mask whenever minimum distance cannot be maintained, as well in closed rooms like Restaurants, Cafés, Busses, Shops etc. During the current lockdown, all Shops, Restaurants, Cafés, Bars and Schools are closed. We are asked to stay home. We are permitted to go for walks as well individual outdoor activities like running, cycling (no surfing unfortunately right now).

Government Risk Scale for Covid-19

The government has developed a risk scale with four levels and different measures. Each country (concelhos) has been assigned a risk level. Moderate risk (risco moderado), increased risk (risco elevado), considerably increased risk (risco muito elevado) and extraordinarily increased risk (risco extremamente elevado). Omassim Guesthouse is located in Palhais / Ribamar. We belong to the Lisbon District, Concelho de Mafra. Please use the link below to investigate which risk level is currently assigned to our region.

There are currently no known entry restrictions for European citizens entering mainland Portugal by air or land. All flights to and from the UK however are cancelled with no entry for UK citizens. Currently there are discussion about including Tests as well quarantine, still not confirmed officially.

Travelling during the Covid-19 pandemic

We trust that each guest will travel responsibly and refrain from joining us if they are unwell or have been in direct contact with a person testing positive for Covid-19 prior to travel. The risk of infection during flight is considered low due to the minute-by-minute air exchange using HEPA filters. Nevertheless, we ask guests to wash and disinfect hands thoroughly on arrival and to leave luggage immediately in their room. Please be especially careful to keep the recommended safe distance while travelling.

Hygiene measures on site

In April / May 2020, we participated in online courses to learn how to safely manage the guesthouse. We uphold the appropriate restrictions and measures to keep Omassim Guesthouse as safe and clean as possible.

We have received the badge: CLEAN & SAFE, recognised by Tourism Portugal.

  • The house is aired extensively every day and surfaces are disinfected (tabletops, door handles, light switches, bathrooms).
  • All bed linen and towels are washed with our certified Laundry Service (Eco-Lavandaria), also recognised CLEAN & SAFE from Tourism Portugal.
  • Staff at Omassim Guesthouse are trained and sensitised to the importance of special hygiene during food preparation.
  • Each guest is issued with yoga kit, to be kept on site: a yoga mat, bolster, belt, blocks, blanket. These items stay with the guest for a week, then are disinfected and returned.
  • If you wish to take part in surfing lessons, the surfing school we partner with will take care of disinfecting and cleaning the wetsuits and booties after each use. You are also welcome to bring your own wetsuit which can also be cleaned/disinfected by the school.

As a guest, please adhere to the current hygiene regulations (wear a mask, disinfect your hands). We have appropriate protection and disinfection material in stock.

Housing Setup

The total occupancy of the guesthouse has been reduced to a maximum of 12-15 people. This ensures there is enough space in the Yoga Shala, living room, dining room and outdoor communal areas. We are a family-like guesthouse and enjoy sharing the space to eat, drink, work and chill out.

We prefer to organise guests with their own bathrooms. Remote workers tend to have their own single bedrooms and private bathrooms. We regularly have double rooms available for couples or guests travelling as a pair with one bathroom available per double room. We have a shared, three-bed bedroom with one bathroom. This room is bookable for groups of friends already travelling together. There is also a five-bed bedroom which has two bathrooms attached to the room. This room can be available for guests from two separate households as there are two bathrooms included.

Guest isolation room

Should a guest develop symptoms of Covid-19, there is a designated isolation room available for quarantine purposes.

Additional Info

  • Our preferred arrival and departure day is Saturday. This allows for good continuity and a manageable number of contacts.
  • On the day of arrival/departure, we ask that guests do not to enter the house between 11am and 2pm to allow staff to clean thoroughly and disinfect the space.

 Returning home

If you have a Corona test within 14 days of your return and the result is positive, please inform us and we will make sure to notify your contacts and test ourselves.

If you have any other questions, suggestions, or concerns, please feel free to call us or send us an email at any time. We wish for a careful and mindful approach towards the current situation and look forward to spending a wonderful time with you in 2021!

Estamos desejosos para receber-vos, a partir de 5 de Junho!
